interesting list, a lotta vital moments in recorded history that are definitely worthy of inclusion, as well as recordings that really are nothing more than window dressing, but that's the way of lists i suppose; as for the GD not being included, personally i'd rather see 'After Bathing at Baxter's' a far more seminal work of art than anything the GD put to vinyl, with the possible exception of LiveDead; at least Sinatra is preserved (of course), but one serious glaring omission is any readings by Charles Bukowski, which when i think about it Buk wouldn't want to have anything to do with a gov't list, so maybe it's just as well

Hey Arb! I share your love for After Bathing at Baxter's, but I can't imagine it would ever end up on that sort of list. The mindset that created that list would I think choose Surrealistic Pillow or Volunteers over Baxter's without even thinking twice.

Lou, i 100% agree that Baxter's would never make it over Volunteers or Surrealistic, and i suppose those LPs represent the '60s San Fran sound in the public ear more so than Baxter's, which most people probably just dismiss given as they are to parrotting what they hear on the radio or read about in the popular press; i've long since resigned myself to the fact that we're all on the road the hell; and anyway, in one billion years none of this will quite matter since the heat coming from the sun will evaporate all the water on the planet and we'll really be in a fix and silly lists such as this will not quite matter as much as trying to get the next breath, assuming we as a species even make it to that far point in the future, which when i look around me doesn't seem all that likely

Gutheries Alices Restaurant or Zappas Joes Garage would be good candidates.
